Farm Family Fun Classes

Hands-on Learning with Farm Family Fun Classes at Cane Creek Farm

Cane Creek Farm, a local farm, offers fresh produce grown using sustainable farming practices without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. In 2008, hands-on classes were offered throughout the growing season on Saturday afternoons, designed to offer families with children opportunities to learn, experience the farm, and do fun activities together. The schedule of classes was as follows:

May 3rd – Plant a Garden – families plant, tend, and harvest a garden plot together

June 21st – Birds, Birds, Birds! – all about birds for adults and children age 4 and up

Sept 27th – Natural Harvest Decorations – adults with children age 8 and up make natural decorations for Thanksgiving/Harvest season

The farm is a wonderful place to bring your children for fun learning activities as a family.

How does it work?

  • Farm Family Fun classes can accommodate up to 10 families per class.
  • The first class, Plant a Family Garden, allowed families to plant, maintain, and harvest a 4 X 4 foot plot on the farm. Each family chose what to plant, with guidance from farm staff
  • The second class, Birds, Birds, Birds!, allowed families to learn about birds through a bird walk, games, and activities and to make bird feeders to take home.
  • In the September class, Family Fall Decorating, families made fall decorations with real corn, pumpkins, dried flowers and more. Families worked together in the Fall Decorating Class to make wreaths and swags, and pumpkins were decorated.

    ·  Lynn, our farmer-educator, wants children to be an integral part of the future of farming. “I love to see the look on a child’s face when they are able to eat something they grew themselves. I believe it strengthens the entire family to farm together.”

    ·  Interested families can contact Debbie Griffin at 404-643-1290 or at fieldtrip@canecreekfarm.net to sign up, and then mail a check to Cane Creek Farm.
