The Farmer

Cane Creek Farm is the realization of a dream Lynn had for many years. That dream was to live a more sustainable lifestyle, surrounded by a community of people interested in the same pursuit. Lynn gardened on a small scale during the 18 years she taught science in high school and college while she and her husband, Chuck, raised their family. In 2001, as the children went off to their own productive lives, Lynn was able to begin applying her knowledge to transform the land into the productive farm it is today.

Lynn’s educational background, including a BS in Biology and Chemistry, MS in Plant Pathology, and Education Specialist in Science Curriculum, have given her the foundation to make informed decisions about the farm and to help others learn the scientific fundamentals of sustainable agriculture.

Her involvement with Georgia Organics, which began in 1986, led to the production of a marketing manual, then to developing a class curriculum on Organic Growing. So it was a natural step for Lynn to begin teaching organic growing classes on the farm, and since 2007, she has been able to meet and teach some amazing students. She continues to consult with a number of these students as they develop their own farms.

The farm grows and changes each year, but the core value of operating a sustainable farm to nurture her family and community remains strong.
